How to Lift a Car to Fit Big Rims?
Many people customize their cars. You can alter the appearance of your vehicle in order to give it the feeling that it is new. Cars are also manufactured in a standard form. Many look alike and for some people this can be off-putting. If you want the performance but want to add a unique touch, you could change the wheels and rims you have on your car and include larger ones.
Some people even prefer some monster wheels instead of a slight adjustment to the size of the wheel. In order to make these changes at home, you need a very powerful jack. You could choose to use a hydraulic floor jack because of its weight rating. However, you must choose a jack that has a high maximum lift. The large wheels need a lot of space beneath the vehicle in order to fit.
Preparing for the Process:
Firstly, park your vehicle and put the handbrake in position. You also need to have the car in gear if it has manual transmission. Take a lug wrench and undo the lug bolts on the wheels that you have been using. Now place the jack below your preferred jacking point. This point is not the same for all vehicles. If you are unsure about the best position to jack your vehicle, read through your owner's manual and find out. You could also find about this from a local mechanic or a friend who has a similar car and has jacked it before.
Changing the Wheels:
From here, the next step is to lift your vehicle. Pump the handle and raise your vehicle to the maximum height. Put the jack stands under the vehicle and slowly lower the jack so that the vehicle rests on the jack stands. Once the car is in this position, remove the lug nuts and then slide the existing wheel off. Take the new wheel and slide it onto the car's hub. Now, tighten your lug nuts with the hands and place the jack in position once again. Remove the jack stands. You can now lower the vehicle and the jack. Get the car onto the floor and then proceed to tighten the lug nuts further. This time, use a torque wrench at the appropriate settings. To find out the specific settings, you should read through the manual. Proceed to repeat the same process for all the wheels that you are changing.
Weight Setting:
Apart from how high the jack can lift, you need to consider the distance the car's bottom is from the ground. If you get a jack that is higher at its resting position, it won't be able to fit under the car. You therefore won't be able to use it. You also need to consider the weight that the jack can handle. You should use a floor jack that can raise at least as much weight as your vehicle's. It would be best to use one that has a higher weight rating.
